Soldier injured in Kulgam encounter, militants flee

KULGAM — Militants managed to give slip to security forces, while an army soldier was injured during an encounter in Brayihard Kathpora village of Yaripora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, officials said here.

An official said that a joint of team of police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.

“As the searches were on, militants who had taken shelter in a nearby area came out firing guns and lobbed grenade,” he said.

He said that the exchange of fire continued for few minutes after which the guns fell silent.

The official added that security forces launched searches for hours to trace the militants, but they couldn’t find anyone and the operation was finally called off.

He also said that an army man received injuries during the initial exchange of firing. — (KNO)
