People should desist from excessive use of heating appilences at Sehri, Ifter to get better power during Ramdhan:Cheif Engineer

Srinagar: Inhabitants of several villages of Southern Kashmir on Tuesday expressed resentment against the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL)for failing to provide adequate electricity during pre-dawn meal in the holy month of Ramadan.
The power crisis in southern Kashmir villages has become a recurring phenomena owing to the fact that the Power Department Department (PDD) has failed to enhance its transmission capacities to meet the demand for electricity in winter months when the temperature plummets below 0° Celsius.
The people from Anantnag to Shopain are complaining about frequent power cuts, mostly during the peak hours of Iftari and Sehri,adding that the concerned department,however,is acting as mute spectator.
Apart from south Kashmir, people from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts claim that the power cuts have intensified from the last week due to which they have to spend maximum hours in darkness.
People said that the concerned department had miserably failed to ensure adequate electricity even in the holy month of Ramadhan. “We fail to understand that even after being promised by the concerned department of substantial power supply in the holy month of Ramadhan why are authorities resorting to usual power cuts,” said Rahil Ahmad Rather of Anantnag.
The department has even failed to ensure the electricity during Sehri and Iftari time,’ another local from Imamsahib Shopain said.
We are facing erratic power cuts despite being assured adequate electricity in the ongoing holy month of Ramadan,” says a local.
It is very difficult to concentrate on our studies without power supply. On the one hand, the government is imposing lockdown on our studies and tuitions while on the other hand, they are not even able to provide uninterrupted power supply, so that we can study,” said a student namely Shahid Mushtaq from Dalipora Pulwama.
Meanwhile Chief Engineer power development department (PDD), Aijaz Ahmad Dar urged people to desist from excessive use of heating appliances during Sehri and Iftaar time to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers in Ramadan.
