Srinagar encounter ends with killing of two local AGuH militants

SRINAGAR — Two local militants, affiliated with Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) militant outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Nowgam area of Srinagar district in Central Kashmir on Wednesday evening.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Nowgam area of Srinagar district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter, two local militants, affiliated with Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Ajaz Rasool Najar, son of Ghulam Rasool Najar from Karimabad Pulwama and Shahid Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mohd from Malpora Budgam.

The duo had gone missing few days ago.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK series rifle, 02 Pistols and 01 Grenade were recovered from the site of encounter.

Police in a statement said, both the killed militants were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities.

They were also involved in recent attack on an outside labourer namely Muneer ul Islam of West Bengal on 02/09/2022 at Ugergund Newa area of Pulwama, the statement said. — (KIMS)
