Teenager allegedly beaten by Madrassa teacher in Kangan, police registers case

GANDERBAL — A teenage boy was injured after being allegedly beaten by a Mullah (teacher) of a local Madrassa for not wearing Khan-dress in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s district on yesterday (Monday).

Mother of the boy told the news agency Kashmir News Observer that her son, aged about 14, had gone to a local Madrassa to learn the Quran, where Mullah, who teaches them there, beat him up.

She further alleged that the teacher beat him up for not wearing Khan-dress, which according to him, is the dress code of the Madrassa. She also alleged that her son received injuries in his left eye, as the teacher had beaten her son ruthlessly.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson in a statement issued to KNO said that on 10-10-2022 evening, a written complaint was submitted by Mohd Sadiq Chiche, son of Abdul Rashid Chiche of Kangan Wuder to the effect that his minor son namely Bilal Ahmad Cheche has been allegedly beaten by a Molvi namely Reyaz Ahmad Khantana, son of Mohd Yousuf of Wooder, Kangan in a local Darul Uloom for not wearing Khandress which is dress code in Darul uloom.

“In this regard, a case FIR number 164/2022 under sections 341,323, IPC 75 JJ Act has been registered in Police Station Kangan and further investigation has been taken up,” reads the statement. — (KNO)
