SRINAGAR — Police on Friday evening claimed to have arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGW’s) of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit at Bomai Chowk area of Sopore town in North Kashmir.
According to police statement, “on 26 August 2022, during evening hours, a joint naka/MVCP was established by Sopore police, 22 RR, 179 BN CRPF at Bomai chowk in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai. During checking a suspicious movement of three persons coming from Goripura towards Bomai was noted and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot, however were tactfully apprehended by the security forces.”
The statement said that “upon their personal search 3 Hand Grenades, 09 Posters, 12 Pakistani Flags were recovered from their possession.”
The trio has been identified as Shariq Ashraf S/O Mohammad Ashraf Wani R/O Hadipora Rafiabad Saqlain Mushtaq S/O Mushtaq Ahmed War R/O Warpora Sopore and Tawfeeq Hassan Sheikh S/O Ghulam Hassan Sheikh R/O Fatehgarh Baramulla.
The statement added that “preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested persons are OGWs of proscribed militant organisation LeT and were in a constant search of an opportunity to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians including outside labourers.”
“Accordingly case has been registered at Police Station Bomai under relevant sections of law and further investigation is still going on”, the statement ends. — (KIMS)
