Three local Al-Badr militants slain in Shopian anti-militancy operation

SRINAGAR (KIMS) – Three local militants were slain and and another surrendered in an anti-militancy operation in Kanigam village of Imamsahib area in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Thursday.

Reports said that the anti-militancy operation was jointly launched by Government forces including Indian Army’s 44 RR (Rashtriya Rifles), CRPF and J&K Police in Kanigam village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

Three militants were slain in this anti-militancy operation and they have been identified as Danish Mir and Mohd Umer Bhat from Khajapora Shopian and Zaid Bashir Reshi from Raben Shopian.

The trio were affiliated with Al-Badr militant outfit.

Another militant identified as Tausif Ahmad surrendered before Government forces during operation after repeated appeals from family members. He later also appealed to his companions to surrender but they refused to surrender.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site of encounter, police said.

The last rites of the slain militants shall be performed after conducting medico-legal formalities and their nearest family members shall be allowed to participate in the last rites, they added.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped down mobile internet service in Shopian district as a precautionary measure. – (KIMS)
