SHOPIAN — Three local militants, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Nagbal village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Nagbal village in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter, three local militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Danish Khursheed Bhat, son of Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, resident of Ladi Imamsahib, Tanveer Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Amarbugh Imamsahib and Towseef Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Nabi Bhat, resident of Chermarag.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
As per police records, all the killed militants were categorized militants and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities.
According to police statement, “Danish Khursheed Bhat and Tanveer Ahmad Wani who were active since Aug-2021, were trying to revive the militant folds by recruiting and motivating the gullible youth to join militant folds. Moreover, the killed militant Danish Khursheed had earlier escaped from several encounters.” — (KIMS)
