SRINAGAR — The body of a man with his throat slit was found on Monday in Mir Muqam Awoora village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
A police official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the deceased, identified as Abdul Hamid Khan, a 50-year-old labourer, was discovered with deep cut marks on his throat.
The family members and relatives who spoke to KNO said Khan had been suffering from hypertension and depression for several months and was under medication. He was scheduled to visit a doctor in Srinagar on the day of his death, they said.
Khan’s family members said they woke up for prayers and soon discovered Khan lying in a pool of blood with a slit throat. The deceased, a father of seven, had a treatment phobia, which they believe might have contributed to his tragic death.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shobhit Saxena, confirmed that the police are investigating the incident from all possible angles.
“We reacted swiftly upon receiving the information of a man being found dead in his home. The body was sent for postmortem to ascertain the facts related to the incident,” he said.
“It would be premature to draw any conclusions at this stage, but we will investigate the incident thoroughly.”
SSP Saxena said all aspects of the case will be examined to uncover the truth behind Khan’s death. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, he added. — (KNO)
