SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least two militants were killed and two soldiers and a civilian were injured during an encounter in Sopore town of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Friday morning.
The encounter broke out between government forces and militants at Check Mohalla in Nowpora village of Sopore on Thursday evening after which the encounter was halted for night due to darkness. The encounter resumed on Friday morning which led to the killing of two militants.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Birdi while briefing to media said, “two militants were killed in Sopore encounter. Among them one has been identified as Saifullah while the identification of another is being ascertained.”
Earlier, a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Nowpora village in Sopore following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. — (KIMS)
