ANANTNAG (KIMS) — Police on Friday said they have arrested two women involved in separate NDPS cases related to illegal cultivation of opium poppy in Anantnag district.
According to a police statement, in the first case, police formally arrested Dilshada, wife of Sheikh Musa Qazim, resident of Wullarhama involved in FIR No. 27/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Pahalgam.
Police said the case was registered after illegal poppy cultivation was detected on her land and subsequently destroyed as per legal procedure.
In another case, Naseema, widow of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, resident of Sofi Pora was arrested in connection with FIR No. 31/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Pahalgam.
The case pertains to illegal poppy cultivation on land under her possession, police said.
Both arrests were made after completion of legal formalities and verification of their involvement in cultivation of contraband crops in violation of the NDPS Act.
Anantnag Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against cultivation, trafficking and abuse of narcotic substances and said the drive against illegal poppy cultivation will continue across the district. — (KIMS)
