WCA Organizes Seminar on Plural Culture and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra

ANANTNAG — A thought-provoking seminar titled “Understanding Plural Culture in Kashmir and Dynamics of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra” held at Govt Women’s College Anantnag.

The event was jointly organized by the Debates and Seminars Committee in collaboration with the Talent Search Committee of the college.

The seminar, conducted in the college’s conference hall, began with opening remarks by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Malik, Head of the Department of Political Science.

He emphasized Kashmir’s long-standing tradition of syncretic culture, stating that the region’s global identity is rooted in its pluralistic and inclusive ethos.

The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Prof. (Dr) Masood Ahmad Malik, Principal of the college. Dr. Malik offered deep insights into the historical, spiritual, and economic dimensions of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

Quoting the 14th-century Kashmiri mystic poet Lalla Ded, he described pilgrimage as more than a physical journey—calling it a transformative path toward inner purification and spiritual growth. He also highlighted the Yatra’s role as a vehicle for cultural exchange and local economic development.

The event concluded with a concise summary of the discussions and a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Arshid Iqbal Dar, faculty member, Department of Political Science.

The seminar provided students and faculty with a rich understanding of Kashmir’s cultural harmony and the broader impact of religious pilgrimages like the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
