Weather to improve from today afternoon: MeT

SRINAGAR — The Meteorological Department on Monday forecast intermittent light rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir till today afternoon and said the weather will improve in the afternoon.

The rain lashed plains while higher reaches including famous tourist destination Gulmarg received snowfall during the last 24 hours in the Union Territory.

An official of the Meteorological Department said, intermittent light rain/snow will occur in J&K today till afternoon and there would be improvement thereafter.

He said, Srinagar recorded 1.8 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 0.2 degrees Celsius and minus 3.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Jammu region he said, Jammu recorded 11.9 degrees Celsius, Katra 10.5 degrees Celsius, Batote 3.1 degrees Celsius, Banihal 4.2 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 3.8 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Ladakh region he said, Drass recorded minus 12.2 degrees Celsius, Kargil minus 14.0 degrees Celsius and Leh minus 9.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

Kashmir is currently under 20-day-long period of ‘Chilai Khurd’. It will be followed by 10-day-long ‘Chillai Bache’. — (KIMS)
