Widespread rain, snow likely in Kashmir valley, cloudy sky in Jammu: MeT

SRINAGAR — The Meteorological Department on Tuesday forecast widespread light to moderate rain, snow in Kashmir valley and cloudy sky in Jammu division.

The weather was inclement during last 24 hours in the Union Territory.

An official of the Meteorological Department said, “Widespread light to moderate rain/snow is likely to occur in the Valley and cloudy sky in Jammu division during the next 24 hours.”

He said, Srinagar recorded minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 8.6 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg minus 9.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Jammu region he said, Jammu recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 7.2 degrees Celsius, Batote 1.5 degrees Celsius, Banihal 0.3 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 0.8 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Ladakh region he said, Kargil recorded minus 16.8 degrees Celsius and Leh recorded minus 10.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The 40-day-long harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai Kalan’ will end on 31st of this month followed by 20-day-long ‘Chilai Khurd’ and 10-day-long ‘Chillai Bache’. — (KIMS)
