Woman drug peddler arrested in Anantnag, 8 kgs of cannabis powdery substance recovered

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In a major step against drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested a woman drug peddler in Anantnag district of South Kashmir and recovered cannabis powdery substance from her possession.

“A woman drug peddler identified as Gulshana, wife of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie, a resident of Takiya Maksood Shah, Bijbehara was arrested along with approximately 8 kilograms of a cannabis powdery substance during a naka (checkpoint) operation conducted by the Police team in the area,” police said in a statement.

“Subsequently, a case has been registered under FIR No. 226/2024, U/S 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Bijbehara. Investigation is ongoing, and further legal proceedings will follow,” the statement said.

“Drug abuse remains a severe threat to society, and its eradication requires collective efforts and cooperation from all sections of the community,” the statement added. — (KIMS)
