10 Kg of Gold Coins Worth ₹7.8 Crore Seized from Two Kashmir-Bound Passengers at IGI Airport

NEW DELHI (KIMS) — In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at IGI Airport, New Delhi, seized 10 kg of gold coins worth ₹7.8 crore from two Kashmir-bound passengers.

Acting on specific intelligence, customs officials intercepted two male passengers from Kashmir, aged 45 and 43, arriving from Milan via Flight AI-138 on February 5, 2025, at the Green Channel. During discreet surveillance and profiling, their suspicious behavior raised red flags.

Although baggage scans revealed nothing unusual, a personal search triggered by DFMD alerts led to the discovery of two specially designed waist belts. These belts concealed gold coins wrapped in plastic envelopes, amounting to a total of 10.092 kg of gold valued at approximately ₹7.8 crore.

Both passengers have been detained for further investigation under the Customs Act, 1962.
