30 families stuck at Margan Top, rescued

ANANTNAG (KIMS) — At least 30 families were rescued by 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF 164 Batallion and Civil Administration at Margan Top in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Monday.

These families got stuck along with the live stock at Margan Top due to the snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during last 24 hours.

Amidst heavy rainfall in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir valley, 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Larnoo COB along with CRPF 164 Batallion rescued at least 30 families who were stuck at higher reaches of Margan Top along with their livestock.

The Army responded immediately with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, and Civil Administration for the rescue operation using snow chains on Army vehicles.

The team of Army led by Major Sanjay Pandey of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) successfully rescued atleast 30 families along with their live stock.

The majority of the rescued families are from Reasi and Pathribal.

The 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) also set-up a medical camp at Gawran base to provide special treatment to the rescued persons.

The Civil Administration including Station House Officer (SHO) Larnoo also provided all the necessary assistance to them at Gawran base.

The team of doctors from Animal Husbandry Department also provided medical support to live stocks.

Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag while taking to Kashmir Independent Media Service (KIMS Kashmir) said, Successfully rescued around 75 people and approximately 1500 livestock and got them down to Gawran.

They are being given medical care, food, shelter and all necessary care by Adminstration, Police, Army, CRPF etc. he said.

He further said that a part of team is still continuing mop up operations in higher reaches. — (KIMS)
