Will take part in NC protest for statehood restoration in next Parliament session: Ruhullah Mehdi

SRINAGAR — National Conference leader Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday said he will join the party protest for restoration of statehood on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.

“I will definitely go there. They (NC leadership) will go to talk about restoration of statehood and I will talk about restoration of Article 370 and other constitutional guarantees for which people of Jammu and Kashmir voted for us,” the Srinagar MP told reporters in Pulwama, when asked whether he would take part in the party protest.

During a meeting of the ruling party MLAs convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on June 3, the National Conference decided to hold protest on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament to press for their demand for restoration of statehood.

“I hope the protest is not a one-day event to silence the people. It should be a continuous and organised struggle for restoration of constitutional protections and safeguards that were snatches from us in 2019,” he said. — (PTI)
