SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 will remain suspended from both the Chandanwari and Baltal routes with effect from August 9 in view of track restoration works and the forecast of adverse weather conditions, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said on Saturday.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage commenced on July 3 simultaneously from the Chandanwari track in Anantnag district and Baltal route in Ganderbal district and is scheduled to culminate with the traditional Chadi Mubarak ceremony on August 28.
According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir’s post on X, more than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Shrine so far.
Garg said recent rains have necessitated repair and maintenance of vulnerable stretches along the Yatra tracks, with the restoration work being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
He added that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted adverse weather conditions over the next few days, prompting the suspension of the pilgrimage from both routes.
The Divisional Commissioner said the Chadi Mubarak will proceed through the traditional Pahalgam route and mark the culmination of the 2026 Yatra on August 28.
He appealed to pilgrims to strictly adhere to advisories issued by the competent authorities from time to time in the interest of their safety and the smooth conduct of the Yatra. — (KIMS)
