Bemina Attack: Three accused involved in attacking police officer arrested, says police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least three persons, who were involved in attacking a police officer in Bemina area of Srinagar have been arrested, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Sunday.

The incident happened on December 9, 2023, when unknown militants fired upon and injured a police officer namely Mohd Hafeez Chak (SgCt), son of Gh. Hassan Chak, a resident of Lontha Karnah.

Chak was posted at Police Post at Bana Mohalla Fateh Kadal and was presently residing at Hamdaniya Colony Bemina (Mathai bund) in Srinagar where the incident happened.

Soon after the incident, Chak was shifted to JVC Hospital in Bemina for treatment where from he was shifted to 92 Base Badamibagh Army Hospital for advanced treatment.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had registered a Case FIR No. 112/2023 U/S 307 IPC, 7/27 A. Act, 16, 18, 38 UAP Act, 120-B IPC in Police Station Bemina in this regard and started investigation.

The investigation led to the arrest of three persons who were involved in the attack namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday, son of Tariq Ahmad Khanday and Danish Ahmad Mala, son of Gh. Mohd Malla — both residents of Hamdaniya Colony Sector – A and Mehnan Khan @ Mehran, son of Mehraj Din Khan, a resident of Khawajapora Saidapora in Rainawari Srinagar and recovery of arms and ammunition including Canik TP09 Pistols and magazines, Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.

The arrested persons confessed to have hatched a conspiracy in collaboration with a PAK based handler, Hamza Burhan, to target a police officer in Srinagar. The plan was executed on December 9, 2023, using illegally trafficked arms and ammunition, the statement said. — (KIMS)
