Supreme Court’s decision on Article 370 not ‘God’s verdict’: Mehbooba Mufti

SRINAGAR — People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said that her party will continue struggle for the restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision on December 11, upholding the Centre’s move to revoke Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state, Mufti said that the court’s ruling should not be considered as ‘God’s verdict’.

The apex court not only validated the abrogation of Article 370 but also directed the restoration of statehood at earliest and the conduct of assembly elections by September 30 next year.

“Do not lose heart, our struggle will continue, the Supreme Court is not God. The Supreme Court had asserted that Article 370 cannot be amended without the recommendation of a constituent assembly. Today, different judges have passed the ruling, and we cannot consider it as ‘God’s verdict’,” Mehbooba said while speaking to reporters in Kupwara.

“Our opponents want us to give up, but we will fight till our last breath. We have given a lot of sacrifices and we cannot let them go in vain,” she said. — (PTI)
