CBI detains lecturer, KAS officer for bribery demands

SRINAGAR — In a bribery case in Jammu, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained a Tourism Development Corporation officer and a lecturer of Government Polytechnic College on Wednesday.

In connection with a bribery of Rs. 2.3 lakh, the CBI today detained a lecturer of Government Polytechnic College and the Chief Accounts Officer (KAS) of the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation, CBI said in a statement.

According to the statement, a complaint was filed against the defendants alleging that the Chief Accounts Officer had requested a bribe of Rs. 2.3 lakh from the complainant through the lecturer in order to expedite payment for bills submitted by his company.

The accused was captured in a trap set by the CBI while soliciting and taking a bribe of Rs. 2.3 lakh from the complainant. At the accused’s workplace and home, searches are being carried out, it states.

Sajad Ahmed, a Chief Accounts Officer, and Shokat Ali, a Lecturer, who were both detained, will be presented tomorrow before the Court of Special Judge CBI cases, Jammu, according to the statement.
