Election for President & VP posts of MC Aishmuqam deferred by a day

Srinagar, Mar 08: The election for the post of President and vice President of Municipal Committee Aishmuqam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag was on Monday deferred by a day.

As per News Agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Anshul Garg Monday ordered the deferment by a day in the election.

“In partial modification of this order No.DEO/Ang/MC/Aishmuqam/Election/ President/2021/9668-76 dated 06-03-202, the election for President and Vice-President in respect of Municipal Committee, Aishmuqam shall be held on 10-03-2021 instead of 09-03-2021. However, the place and time for holding of election shall be the same as communicated earlier,” reads an order issued by DC Anantnag in this regard, a copy of which lies with News Agency KDC.

Earlier, on 08 February a no-confidence motion was moved against the incumbent President of the MC Aishmuqam Abdul Waheed Bhat by nine councilors against the total of thirteen members.

Meanwhile, the councilors who had moved the no-confidence motion against the incumbent President have expressed apprehensions of horse-trading and are demanding early elections.

One of the councilors, Sofi Arafat, told KDC that they have apprehensions that opposition is trying to play the delay tactics so that they can succeed in horse-trading.

“They are trying to defer the elections for horse-trading & to gain the support from other councilors. Otherwise, we all set to win as statutory powers and numbers are with us,” he added. (KDC)
