Fake journalist, associate arrested for extorting money in Pulwama

PULWAMA (KIMS) — A fake journalist along with his associate were arrested for attempting to extort money from a house owner in Rahmoo village of Pulwama district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Tuesday.

“Two persons identified as Abass Ahmad Seh, son of Mohd Akbar Seh and Sheraz Ahamed Dar, son of Mohammad Ameen Dar — both residents of Nagbal Shopian were claiming to be journalists and were arrested for demanding money from Mohd. Shafi Rather, son of Gh. Nabi Rather, the owner of the house in Rahmoo village of Pulwama district for not exposing certain activities including construction on Khacharie,” Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.

“Police has recovered fake identity card and mobile phones from the accused persons,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a Case FIR No. 19/2024 under Sections 419, 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Rajpora and further investigation has been taken up. — (KIMS)
