GN Dar is new prez of traders body Wagoora

BARAMULLA — After week-long campaigning among the traders at Wagoora town in Baramullah, Ghulam Nabi Dar was elected as President of Traders Association Wagoora on Thursday with an overwhelming majority.

Dar according to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com gets 157 votes while the runner-up Imran Wani polled 88 votes.

Dar will be president for three years and his team will comprise Vice President, General Secretary, and a Treasurer.

Out of 410 shopkeepers at Wagoora town, as many as 245 came for the voting which was conducted today in presence of police and civil administration Baramulla.

Dar is a retired official of the School Education department. His family runs a huge business of sanitation hardware.

Dar is a popular businessman and a philanthropist given his decades-long work against social evils and also for the upliftment of financially poor sections of the society in the area.

His win came on expected lines. Sensing a massive win in the election, his son gifted him a BMW car.

The traders congratulated Dar on his win and hoped he would be at the forefront in resolving the issues of the traders body.

The officials of Tehsil Wagoora, Block Development Office Wagoora, Sub-Division Power Development Department Wagoora, Zonal Education Office Wagoora, Zonal Physical Education Office Wagoora, Registrar Cooperatives Wagoora, ICDS Project Officer Wagoora, Horticulture and Agriculture Extension Officers Wagoora, Tehsil Supplies Officer CAPD Wagoora, and officials of other departments sent their congratulatory messages to Dar.

The elected Panchayat representatives of Block Development Office Wagoora also met Dar and extended their support to him.

Citizens Forum Wagoora in a separate message congratulated Dar for this win in the election and hoped he would be at the forefront in resolving not only the issues of traders but will take up other social and developmental grievances with the officials. — (KDC)
