Man arrested for rumour mongering in Pulwama: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A man has been arrested for spreading rumours on Social Media in Rajpora belt of Pulwama district in South Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday.

“An FIR has been registered against one rumour monger namely Sameer Ahmed Paray, son of Ab Rasheed Parray, resident of Kabikoot CB Nath for recently uploading a false post on his Facebook profile Babar Azam,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a press release.

“He has uploaded a photo depicting arms and ammunition and has claimed that a new one from pulwama has joined militancy. He has been found circulating incriminating content on social media there by disrupting public peace and tranquility,” reads the press release.

“In this regard, a Case FIR No. 23/2024 u/s 505(b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation set into motion,” it read.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has requested general public to abstain from posting any false content on Social Media and strict action will be taken against any person found involved in posting malicious content on internet. — (KIMS)
