MeT forecasts rain, snow in Kashmir, cloudy sky in Jammu

SRINAGAR — The Meteorological Department on Saturday forecast rain and snow in Kashmir division and cloudy sky in Jammu division for next 24 hours.

The weather was dry in the Union Territory on Friday.

An official of the Meteorological Department said, “Generally cloudy sky in Jammu division with chances of light to moderate rain/snow is likely in Kashmir division during the next 24 hours.”

He said, Srinagar recorded 1.7 degrees Celcius as the minimum temperature while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 6.9 degrees Celsius and minus 7.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Jammu region he said, Jammu recorded 6.1 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.6 degrees Celsius and Batote 2.5 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature while Banihal and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.4 degrees Celsius and minus 1.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

In Ladakh region he said, Kargil recorded minus 14.8 degrees Celsius and Leh recorded minus 13.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The 40-day-long harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai Kalan’ will end on 31st of this month followed by 20-day-long ‘Chilai Khurd’ and 10-day-long ‘Chillai Bache’. — (KIMS)
