GUWAHATI/JAIPUR — Taking a veiled dig at the Centre and the BJP brass, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said if he speaks about farmers, there will be a controversy. “(After I make a statement), I wait for two weeks wondering if I am going to get a call from Delhi,” Malik said at a programme in Jaipur.
He, nevertheless, went on to attack the Centre and the BJP over the issue. Leaders in Delhi send their condolences even when a dog dies but none expressed grief on the death of ‘600’ farmers during the agitation against the three agri laws, he said.
Malik said he was speaking against the wishes of “two-three big people” in Delhi by whom he was appointed, but would not hesitate a minute to quit the gubernatorial post. “I am fully aware that what I say will create problems for them. The day they will ask me…I will not waste a minute (in tendering my resignation),” he said.
“A governor cannot be removed but my well-wishers (read critics) wait that I say something and get removed. They write on Facebook asking, ‘Governor saab, if you feel it so much, why you don’t resign’?” Malik said. — (TNIE)
