Passenger vehicle falls into gorge in Baramulla, seven dead

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least seven persons died and as many as were injured in a road accident in Boniyar area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Wednesday.

Reports said, a passenger vehicle (Tata Sumo) skidded off the road and plunged into deep gorge at Bujithallan area of Boniyar in Baramulla district which resulted in death to seven persons who have been identified as Tahira, wife of Reyaz Ahmad, Amina, daughter of Abdul Gani, Mohd Maqbool Sheikh, son of Ahmad Sheikh, Abdul Rehman, son of Fateh, Maqsood Ahmad, son of Gh. Rasool, Sarwa, wife of Gh. Mohd Bakshi and Sameena, wife of Ab. Hamid Sheikh — all residents of Bujithallan, Boniyar.

Seven other persons who were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla have been identified as Shabir Ahmad, son of Ab. Gani, Ab. Razak, son of Ab. Rehman, Khursheed Ahmad, son of Manzoor Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, son of M. Abdullah, Junaid Ahmad, son of M. Ashraf (Child), Meema, wife of Iqbal Sheikh (Child) and M. Shafi, son of Bashir Ahmad — all residents of Bujithallan, Boniyar.

Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives in Baramulla accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured persons.

He also announced ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 Lakh to the next kin of the decreased persons and Rs. 1 Lakh to the injured ones.

He also directed the district administration Baramulla to provide all possible assistance to the families expeditiously. — (KIMS)
