SHOPIAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered 13.264 kg of a ganja-like substance and four grams of a charas-like substance from his possession, police said.
The arrest was made during routine naka checking at Matipora Bridge, where a police party from Police Post Berthipora intercepted a man carrying a nylon bag while he was travelling from Matipora towards Batamuran.
During a search of the bag, police recovered approximately 13.264 kg of a ganja-like substance. A further personal search led to the recovery of four grams of a charas-like substance.
The accused was identified as Feroz Ahmad Wani, son of Gh. Rasool Wani, a resident of Batamuran.
Police said an FIR (No. 101/2026) has been registered at Police Station Keller under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and establish its forward and backward linkages. — (KIMS)
