SRINAGAR — An inquiry has been ordered into an alleged misconduct by police personnel in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesman said that on June 10, a police team from the Kunzer station, while carrying out a status-quo order issued by the JMIC Tangmarg, initiated legal and preventive proceedings in the village of Dhobiwan.
Following this, an altercation reportedly occurred inside the police station involving an advocate and police officials. Allegations were made regarding the conduct of the police during this incident.
To address these concerns and ensure complete transparency, fairness, and objectivity, the Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has directed a detailed inquiry into the entire sequence of events. This inquiry will be led by a gazetted officer.
The inquiry will examine all aspects of the incident, including the conduct of everyone involved, the circumstances surrounding the registration of the case, and any allegations of misconduct or excessive use of force.
The spokesman informed that statements from all concerned individuals will be recorded, and all available evidence will be reviewed.
“It is assured that if any lapse, misconduct or deviation from established procedures on the part of any police personnel is found during the course of inquiry, appropriate action shall be taken and accountability shall be ensured strictly in accordance with law,” the spokesman added.
He emphasised that both the investigation into the registered case and the departmental inquiry will proceed independently based on their merits.
The public is requested not to be guided by speculation or unverified information and to allow the due process of law to take its course, he said. — (PTI)
