BANDIPORA — Security forces on Sunday conducted a joint mock anti-terror drill at a school in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district to assess their preparedness and coordination in handling emergency situations, officials said.
The Cordon, Intervention and Rescue (CIRS) exercise was conducted at PM High School, Gundgahagir, by Bandipora Police, Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles, 45 Battalion CRPF and other agencies, according to a police statement.
The drill was based on a simulated hostage situation involving two civilians held captive by terrorists inside the school premises.
After receiving information at 11 am, the participating teams reached the spot within 15 minutes and cordoned off the area. Civilians and students were evacuated to ensure their safety.
During the exercise, the teams carried out a coordinated room intervention and neutralised two simulated terrorists. One hostage was rescued unharmed, while the injured hostage was provided first aid, including CPR, before being shifted to a nearby hospital.
A thorough search of the school premises and adjoining areas was also conducted to ensure the area was safe and secure, the statement said.
The exercise demonstrated coordination, prompt response and operational preparedness among the participating agencies, it added. — (KIMS)
