SRINAGAR — Pulwama MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para on Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) of allegedly turning the Islamic Kalima into a personality cult chant for party founder Sheikh Abdullah, describing the alleged act as “blasphemy, not devotion.”
In a post on X, Para claimed that the NC had “rewrote the Kalima” in honour of Sheikh Abdullah and alleged that even the former leader had not objected to it.
The MLA also took a swipe at NC supporters over claims that Sheikh Abdullah had gifted Kashmir the “Yazaar”, questioning what other achievements could be attributed to the late leader.
Targeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Para alleged that his defence of an NC spokesperson over the controversy was not merely a “slip” but amounted to a “confession”, and claimed that the issue reflected the party’s policy.
The remarks come amid a political controversy over comments involving Sheikh Abdullah and religious symbolism. — (KIMS)
