SRINAGAR — Kashmir valley received heavy snowfall since last evening while rain lashed Jammu division as the Meteorological Department said the weather will improve from Monday evening in the Union Territory.
An official of the Meteorological Department said adverse weather is likely to continue during the next 12 hours. The improvement would occur from Monday evening.
The snowfall disrupted the land and air traffic in Kashmir valley as shooting stones close Srinagar-Jammu National Highway while poor visibility affected flight operations at Srinagar International Airport.
Famous tourist destinations Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and other higher reaches of Kashmir received over 1-3 ft of fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile Srinagar recorded minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 1.4 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg minus 4.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
Jammu recorded 10.4 degrees Celsius, Katra 9.0 degrees Celsius, Batote 1.2 degrees Celsius, Banihal 0.2 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
In Ladakh region, Kargil recorded minus 6.8 degrees Celsius and Leh recorded minus 0.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
The 40-day-long harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai Kalan’ will end tomorrow and 20-day-long ‘Chilai Khurd’ will begin followed by 10-day-long ‘Chillai Bache’. — (KIMS)
