ANANTNAG — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Anantnag registered 408 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 476 alleged drug peddlers during the first nine months of 2026, as part of its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse.
According to police, more than 542 kg of contraband was seized during various operations across the district, while ₹27.52 lakh in cash was recovered from alleged drug peddlers.
Police said properties worth around ₹60 crore were attached in 35 cases under relevant provisions of law. In addition, 20 properties allegedly linked to narcotics proceeds, valued at around ₹20 crore, were demolished.
As part of its enforcement drives, police also destroyed around 2,000 kg of narcotic substances after completion of due legal procedures and removed illegal narcotic cultivation spread over 305 marlas of land.
More than 271 marlas of government land allegedly encroached upon by drug peddlers were also retrieved, police said.
Preventive measures included detention of 16 alleged drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act, while 28 driving licences and 22 registration certificates were cancelled in connection with narcotics-related offences.
Police conducted 295 Narco-CASO operations across the district and carried out joint inspections of 220 medical shops, detecting 19 violations for which legal action was initiated.
The police also said that 13 female cultivators were arrested in connection with narcotics-related activities. Eight government employees were found involved in drug-related cases and legal action was initiated against them.
To strengthen investigation and prosecution, 213 investigation officers handling NDPS cases were imparted training at DPO Anantnag on legal procedures and evidence handling. — (KIMS)
