Eid-ul-Fitr prayers disallowed at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz placed under house arrest: Anjuman Auqaf

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — After disallowing Jummat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadan and night long Shab-e-Qadr prayers, the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday disallowed Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

Anjuman Auqaf, the management body of the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta Srinagar in a statement said, “Following Fajr prayers, the police personnel closed the gates of Jamia Masjid Srinagar and informed the Auqaf that Eid-ul-Fitr prayers scheduled for 9:30 am will not being permitted at Jamia Masjid today.”

Meanwhile the statement said, “Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was again placed under house arrest earlier this morning.”

Notably, it is for the fifth consecutive year that the authorities have disallowed Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

Last week, the authorities had also disallowed Congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar on the eve of Jummat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramadan and Shab-e-Qadr and had placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest for the fifth consecutive year. — (KIMS)
