Eight arrested in Baramulla for disturbing law and order to aid notorious drug smuggler: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested eight persons in Nowshera Boniyar area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir for disturbing law and order to aid notorious drug smuggler who was booked under PIT-NDPS Act.

Police in a statement said, on 29th March, 2023, some miscreants of village Nowshera Boniyar blocked national highway at Nowshera for about 2 hours and disturbed law and order to aid a drug smuggler namely Tauqeer Ahmad Magray, son of Bashir Ahmad Magray, a resient of Nowshera Baramulla who was detained under PIT-NDPS Act and lodged in Central Jail Kot Balwal Jammu.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Boniyar and investigation was taken up, the statement said.

It said, during the preliminary course of investigation, Police utilizing all technical and human intelligence identified these miscreants and arrested all the accused persons involved in commission of crime.

The accused persons have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad, son of Mohd Mukhtar Mir, Mashood Yasin Mir, son of Mohd Yasin Mir, Ghulam Rasool Sofi, son of Abdul Gafoor Sofi, Showkat Ahmad, son of Abdul Gaffar, Tasleem Ahmad, son of Ali Mohammad, Parvez Ahmad, son of Abdul Aziz, Manzoor Ahmad, son of Ali Mohamad and Abdul Majeed Naikoo, son of Abdul Rehman, all residents of Village Nowshera.

They have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody, it said. — (KIMS)
