SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Police on Monday claimed to have solved the murder case of a 12-year-old girl in Budgam district within 36 hours of the incident by arresting the accused involved in the crime.
According to a police statement, information was received at Police Station Budgam on May 23 at around 10 pm regarding the disappearance of the minor girl from her residence at Galwanpora during the evening hours.
Following the incident, FIR No. 139/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered and an intensive search and investigation operation was launched to trace the girl.
Police said the body of the minor girl was recovered during the early morning hours of May 24 at a short distance from her residence, following which investigation was intensified on priority from all angles.
To ensure a professional and scientific investigation, District Police Budgam constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Budgam, Sajad Ahmad.
The investigation involved examination of the scene of crime, collection and analysis of biological and material evidence, digital evidence examination, CCTV footage analysis, human intelligence inputs and sustained field operations, the statement said.
During investigation, evidence pointed towards the involvement of a local individual. Police said multiple suspects were rounded up and questioned before technical, physical and circumstantial evidence led investigators to the prime suspect.
The accused was identified as Mudassir Ahmad Mir, resident of Galwanpora.
Police said the accused confessed to his involvement in the crime during sustained questioning and further material evidence connected with the offence was recovered on his disclosure.
Additional legal provisions have also been invoked in the case, while the motive behind the crime is still under investigation, police said.
Budgam Police reiterated its commitment towards ensuring public safety and delivering justice through prompt and evidence-based investigation.
Police also appealed to the public to maintain peace and communal harmony and refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation on social media, warning that any attempt to disturb public order would invite strict legal action. — (KIMS)
