Properties worth over ₹1.23 crore of absconding drug peddler attached in Sopore

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said they attached immovable properties worth over ₹1.23 crore belonging to an absconding alleged drug peddler in Sopore area of Baramulla district under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to a police statement, the action was taken under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan in connection with FIR No. 23/2026 registered at Police Station Sopore.

The attached properties comprise a double-storey residential house with a boundary wall and land measuring one kanal and 10 marlas under Survey No. 365 Min, with a combined value of over ₹1.23 crore.

Police identified the accused as Mohammad Ashraf Mir alias Ashu, son of Late Farooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Jamia Qadeem, Sopore, presently residing at Krankshivan Colony, Nageen Bagh-B, Sopore.

The statement said a detailed financial investigation revealed that the attached properties had been acquired through proceeds generated from illicit narcotics trafficking. The attachment proceedings were carried out in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act in the presence of independent witnesses.

Police said the accused is absconding in the case and a Hue and Cry Notice/Look Out Notice has already been issued against him. He is also involved in multiple NDPS cases, indicating his continued involvement in drug trafficking activities.

The attachment is aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure of narcotics networks by depriving drug traffickers of assets acquired through the proceeds of crime, the statement said.

Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse, adding that stringent legal and financial action will continue against those involved in the narcotics trade. — (KIMS)
