Terror associate, drug peddler booked under PSA, PIT NDPS Act in Awantipora

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday booked a terror associate under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and a notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Awantipora area of Pulwama district.

According to a police statement, the terror associate, identified as Suhail Farooq Lone alias Sahba, son of Farooq Ahmad Lone, resident of Lone Mohalla Nigeenpora Reshipora, Tral, was booked under the Public Safety Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

He was subsequently detained and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah, police said.

The statement said the associate was allegedly involved in providing logistical support, shelter, transportation and other assistance to terrorist outfits operating in the area. Despite repeated preventive measures, he continued to engage in activities prejudicial to the security of the State, necessitating his preventive detention under the PSA, police added.

In a separate action, police booked a notorious drug peddler, Manzoor Ahmad Mir alias Mana Tiger, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir, resident of Kadlabal Pampore, under the PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

He was subsequently lodged in Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, the statement said.

Police said Manzoor Ahmad Mir is a habitual offender with several NDPS cases registered against him and was allegedly involved in the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs by supplying contraband substances to local youth in Pampore and other areas of Police District Awantipora.

His continued involvement in drug trafficking posed a serious threat to society, warranting his preventive detention under the PIT NDPS Act, the statement added. — (KIMS)
